Wire Wheel Cleaning & Protection

1/ Clean one wheel at a time.

This prevents the brake dust & contamination re-bonding back onto the rim & spokes.

2/ Winners Wicked Wheels for black brake dust removal.

Spray the spokes & rims with the Wicked Wheels leave for 30 seconds to dwell & it will gradually turn red as the brake dust dissolves, then agitate with a combination of the red & blue wheel brushes for a further minute. Rinse off thoroughly with the drench setting on a hose trigger spray, inspect the wheel & if necessary, repeat. Do not leave on for more than 2 minutes before rinsing off.

3/ Winners Citrus Pre-wash for general wheel cleaning where heavy brake dust is not present.

Mix a 3 to 1 solution of citrus pre-wash in the 1 litre swipe spray bottle (no:4 below) with a foamer head to help it cling & dwell onto the rim & spokes (rather than running on the road!) leave for 30 seconds to dwell, then agitate with a combination of the red & blue wheel brushes until you have brushed as much of the rim & spokes as you can reach. Rinse off thoroughly with the drench setting on a hose trigger spray, inspect the wheel & if necessary, repeat. Do not leave on for more than 5 minutes once the brushing process has been finished before rinsing off.

4/ 1 litre Spray Bottle with foamer head.

To spray the Citrus pre-wash.

5/ EZ Detail brush red mini.

Cleaning in between the spokes.

6/ Wheel Brush blue wooden handle.

Cleaning the rim, spokes & nipples.

7/ Once clean use a Blaster Side Kick dryer to dry the wheel off.

8/ Luster Lace Combo strips.

Wrap one of the strips around the spokes to polish remove any tarnishing.

9/ ACF-50 Quart & dispenser to protect the chrome spokes, hub, rims etc.

Use the small chemical brush (10/) to brush the ACF-50 very sparingly onto the dry rim & spokes (although it does have great water dispersing properties) leave on as long as possible to penetrate the nipples & the hub where the spokes pass through. Then gently buff with a microfibre to remove any excess & leave a micro coating to give excellent corrosion protection.

10/ Small chemical brush.

Sparingly brush the ACF-50 onto the spokes, nipples, hub & rim.

11/ Canyon trigger spray head.

Spray the ACF-50 onto a cloth or directly onto the rim & spokes if the wheel has been removed. Recommended for the winter lay-up but do not remove with a microfibre, just replace the wheels & clean off as above in the spring (1/ - 7/).

12/ Winners Wicked Tyre detailer.

Scrub the tyre side walls with the Citrus Pre-wash, rinse well & dry.

Spray the Winners tyre dressing onto a dressing applicator (no/13), microfibre (cut a cloth into small applicator pads) or pour into a dished container & brush onto the tyre (or carefully spray onto the tyre & spread with a cloth or brush – not our preferred method). Leave for a minute & then buff off with a microfibre.

13/ Tyre dressing applicator foam.

Dressing application.

Brake dust & contamination silently builds up on spokes making it difficult to detect before it has really become baked on – especially on chrome as they still look shiny!

If you are a high miler, take the wheels off once a month & give the inner rim & back of the spokes a good treatment with Wicked Wheels to remove the brake dust. If it is a Sunday afternoon/summer classic at the very least remove the wheel & give the full treatment above before you lay it up for the winter & then a good wash off in the spring with the citrus pre-wash ready for the season.
